Project overview
In 2000, forty-eight six-foot Potato Head statues were installed across Rhode Island for the state's “Birthplace of Fun” tourism campaign. RI Potato Heads tells that story and helps people find the statues today.
The challenge
The statues are spread across the state, and over the years many were auctioned, moved, restored, or redecorated. Visitors needed one place to learn the history and figure out where each statue is now.
Our approach
A location-first guide: an interactive map for finding statues, a page for each statue, and a short history that frames the whole thing as a statewide scavenger hunt.
What we built
- 01Interactive statewide map of statue locations
- 02An individual page for each statue
- 03History and background on the original campaign
- 04Contact page for visitors
- 05Built on Squarespace so content can be updated without code
